בשנת 1974 שמה הוחלף ל־"Anahuac III" ובשנת 1975 ל־"Ximena" והניפה דגל פנמה. בשם זה ודגל פנמה נשארה עד הגריטה.
בסוף ספטמבר 1973 האונייה, בפיקודו הראשון של רב חובל זאב תירוש, הפליגה ממסוף הדלק ב-חרג' איילנד במפרץ הפרסי לאילת. האונייה הייתה טעונה ב-36,000 טון דלק גולמי.
בגלל תקלה במכונה האונייה הפליגה במהירות של 11 קשר בלבד.
ב-5 באוקטובר 1973 עברה את מצרי באב אל מנדב. באותו ערב התקבלה הוראה מחיל הים הישראלי להפליג בהאפלה מלאה. ביום כיפור בשבת, ה-6 באוקטובר 1973 פרצה מלחמת יום כיפור.
ביום ראשון ה-7 באוקטובר 1973, בעת תצפית הצהרה נצפה במטח של שלושה טורפדו מתקרב במהירות מימין, כעשר מעלות מאחורי רוחבית האונייה. המטח עבר כ-10 מטר לפני החרטום.
בצי הסוחר העברי לא מלמדים ולא מתרגלים תמרוני התחמקות מטורפדו, אך כולם קראו את הספר מאת ניכולס מונסררט "הים האכזר" ועל פי מה שזכר ממנו ר/ח תירוש החל בתמרוני ההתחמקות אשר נהוגים היו במלחמת העולם השנייה.
כעבור 10 - 15 דקות הובחן במטח נוסף של שלושה טורפדו, אשר הפעם עבר מאחורי הירכתיים. ב-9 באוקטובר האונייה הגיעה בשלום לאילת.
לאחר חתימת השלום עם מצריים, נודע שהצוללת מדגם "ויסקי" (Whisky) ממנה נורו הטורפדו, הייתה בפיקודו של עבדול עזיז אבו קנדיל אשר בהמשך נעשה סוכן אוניות באלכסנדריה.
At the end of September 1973, the ship under the first command of Capt. Zeev Tirosh, sailed from the oil terminal at Kharg Island in Persian Gulf, loaded with 36,000t. of crude oil, to Eilat.
Due to an engine problem the ship sailed at reduced speed of 11 knots.
On the 5th of October, the ship passed the Strait of Bab el Mandeb and in the evening an instruction was received from Israel Navy to sail in total blackout. On the next day. Saturday the 6th of October 1973, the Jewish Day of Atonement, the "Yom Kippur" war broke out.
At noon of the 7th of October, when taking sight of the sun's transit, a salvo of three torpedoes was observed approaching fast from starboard a little behind the amidships. The three torpedoes passed about 10 meters before the bow.
In the Israeli Merchant Marine, a maneuver avoiding a torpedo attack was never taught or exercised, but almost everyone had read the famous book by Nicholas Monserrat "The Cruel Sea". Remembering the episodes from this book Capt. Tirosh started the Second World War torpedo avoiding maneuver. After 10-15 minutes, another salvo of three torpedoes approached the ship. This time they passed behind the stern.
On the 9th of October "Samson" arrived safely to Eilat.
After the peace agreement with Egypt, the following information was obtained: The submarine was of the "Whisky" class and commanded by Abdul Aziz Candil, who after retiring from the Navy, became a ship's agent in Alexandria.
